The American Corner in Skopje is seeking a reliable, responsible individual with strong communication and program design skills to fill the part-time position of American Corner Skopje Activities Specialist.

WORKING HOURS: Part-time (20-hours per week) position on an honorarium contract basis for a period up to nine months (with 3-month renewal).

Summary:
The American Corners of North Macedonia are centers that provide information about the United States and encourage dialogue and cooperation between the people of the United States and of the Republic of North Macedonia through learning and professional development opportunities, cultural exchange activities, and sharing of information resources. The American Corners serve as venues for workshops, discussions, film or video showings, holiday celebrations, English language conversation groups, meetings of people who have studied or traveled in the United States, programs for professional and educational development in an American-style learning environment, and other events as scheduled. The American Corners are supported by the U.S. Department of State and administered through the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Skopje.
Responsibilities
- Creating, designing, and organizing activities (programs) and events, in cooperation with the other AC staff and Embassy, with particular emphasis on science and technology, young people, community engagement, education, English language learning etc.
- Preparing venues, promo materials, handouts, logistics, social media content, etc., for activities and events.
- Communicating and networking with other American Corners, English language libraries, universities, cultural centers, and civil society organizations
- Keeping accurate records of usage of materials, numbers and types of clients, visitors, etc., and preparing statistical and narrative reports on activities.
- Training volunteers, residents, and community members to assist with AC Skopje activities.
- Maintaining the equipment and books and library system of AC Skopje.
- Inputting new members in the library system and checking out and returning books.
- Assisting AC library members in locating and using reference materials.
- Serving as a TOEFL test administrator.
Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English and Macedonian. Effective communication in Albanian language is preferred but not required.
- High school degree is required. Higher education in a relevant field, such as English, education science, business, and computer science is highly preferred.
- Excellent basic computer skills, including excellent ability to use Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Relevant marketing and social media experience is preferred. Relevant experience may include a demonstrated ability to use basic graphic design software, webpage design software, or other technical computer skills for advertising and event organizing.
- Having an enthusiastic interest in organizing and publicizing events for young adults is required. Experience planning events and conducting outreach to audiences is preferred.
- Competency and experience facilitating and participating in group activities. Ability to work with people from diverse background, including youth, adults, elderly and persons with disabilities.
- Ability to prepare and update written reports and correspondence.
- Excellent demonstrated customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and appropriately with colleagues, visitors, and the general public verbally and in writing.
- Effective oral presentation abilities.
- Knowledge of the history, values, society, culture, and education of the United States of America.
