The Street Law program is aimed at educating young people about human, civil and political freedoms and rights, democracy and the concept of the rule of law, the European Union and the European integration process of the Republic of Macedonia. The program is built on the basic principles of non-formal education and through interactive work methods and interactive lectures that differ from the traditional way of teaching in classrooms. The basic idea of We Learn Right is that democratic values are not inherited, but are learned daily, and only by cultivating these values and practicing them daily can we expect the existence of youth who are aware of their guaranteed freedoms and rights and are active in the process of developing democratic society, realization of the principle of rule of law and strengthening of the rule of law.
The clubs and lectures are led by thirty young lecturers, who have previously successfully completed the training for lecturers in We Learn Law and at least one year of experience as teaching assistants. The members of the body of lecturers are young people, mostly law students, as well as law graduates, postgraduates in various legal fields and masters in law.
Lectures are free, held once a week, and last school year were available in the following cities: Skopje, Tetovo, Kumanovo, Bitola and Veles. The lectures are interactive, and the focus is on the individual, and they take place in a way that encourages discussion and opens the opportunity for listeners to express their views and opinions in a free and relaxed atmosphere. The clubs are visited by more than 150 high school students annually as part of the Learn Law clubs in their high schools and youth clubs within the YEF partner organizations.
Through the Learn Law workshops, in addition to lectures from trainers, students have the opportunity to listen to lectures by professionals-experts such as judges, public prosecutors and lawyers. In addition, the program offers its members the opportunity through various organized activities to visit various state institutions and bodies or to be part of simulations that represent their work. In this unique way, the program aims to create a connection between the concept of democracy, human rights and the legal system and their influence in everyday life.
A large number of events are organized within the framework of the We Learn Law program every school year. Among the more significant events, we can single out quizzes to check knowledge, a large number of public simulations of trials and court proceedings from criminal and civil law, as well as simulations of the work of European Union and United Nations bodies and the way of making decisions.
